Since the late 1990's, New Deal has been the main government initiative to help eligible jobseekers make a new start and find suitable employment. This is currently being replaced by Flexible New Deal (FND) in 2 phases with half of the UK becoming an FND area in October 2009 and the other half starting October 2010.

Under the old New Deal, New Deal for Musicians (NDfM) was specifically designed to help musicians, songwriters and other performers like singers and performing DJs, pursue a professional career in music.

MBR has offered various packages of support under NDfM across many parts of Eastern England, to help people develop their music potential in whichever direction they are hoping to go. And every type of music is catered for too from Rock to Opera, Jazz to Classical, Blues to Drum 'n Bass.

Our current New Deal programme is called MIST which stands for "Music Industry Support & Training" and is currently available for New Deal jobseekers based in Hackney and in North Tyneside.

Under Flexible New Deal, we are also beginning to roll out a new programme to support people looking to working in the wider Creative Industries. Our Music And Creative Industries programme will initial support FND customers in Tees Valley but we hope soon to bring it to other parts of the UK too, so watch this space!
