Success Stories
Barbara Bracegirdle -
An ex-university lecturer and education / business consultant, attended the Artist management Programme. Shortly after completing the course, Barbara signed her act, Disco Citizens to Deconstruction. The act's debut single went to Top 40. She soon started managing her son, Nick (aka CHICANE) to chart topping success with Bryan Adams with the song "Don't Give It Up' in March 2000.
Sophie Evans -
Attended the Music Industry Overview and The Music Marketing Programmes, where she learned about a work experience position at Real Time PR. She applied for the position and turned it into a full time job. Since then she successfully auditioned for The Mediaeval Baebes, with whom she has performed at The Royal Albert Hall and touring the United States next year.
Simon Slater -
Manager of Rollo & Faithless. Before attending the programme, Simon was a business consultant. He was introduced to Rollo by one of the speakers on the programme. The rest they say is history.
Charles Dunlop -
Charles dropped out of University and decided to attend the Music Industry Overview Programme. Whilst on the programme he learned about a temporary vacancy at Beatwax Promotions. He successfully applied for the position and made the position permanent. He is now Accounts Executive in the Film Department at Beatwax Promotions.
Scott Paterson -
Scott arrived from Australia at the start of 1999. He applied to various music companies without success. He started the Overview Programme in March 1999 and 6 weeks later he started working at Our Price as well as securing a full-time position at Arabesque Distribution.
Victoria Newton -
Lead singer of Strike shortly went on to secure a record deal with Fresh Records and enjoyed top ten success with "You Sure Do".
Naomi Segal -
Whilst doing a Marketing and Management Degree, Naomi attended the Marketing programme for two reasons: to learn how Music Marketing works and to research possible opportunities for employment that would utilise her existing skills. During the programme, she handed her CV to Jill Reading of Beatwax, one of the country's largest Music and Film Promotions company. Naomi is now Receptionist and Admin. Assistant at Beatwax Promotions.
Sam Balderstone -
A factory worker in Huddersfield, attended the Music Industry Overview Programme in January 1998. His CV was passed on by one of our speakers to Lynn Cosgrove, Vice President of the Dance Division at Sony Music. Sam helped Lynn set up the new Dance Label, INCredible at Sony Music Ent.
Mark Titcombe -
Mark was unemployed when he came on the A&R Programme. Through the contacts he made he landed a position as Head of A&R at Wired Records. He is now co-running his own music management and production company called Athole Still.
Mark Meyer -
After graduating from his Japanese Degree, Mark decided to sit the Music Industry Overview Programme to broaden his knowledge of the International Music Industry. Since completing the programme he has secured himself the position of Japenese Sales Executive at Windsong International (the export department of Pinnacle Distribution).
Kumar Kamalagharan -
Attended the first Music Industry Overview Programme and now runs one of the country's biggest Tour Management Companies, Fruit Pie Productions. Recent projects include tours for Imogen Heap, Glitterbox, Drugstore, UFO, Shola Ama and Steve Winwood amoungst others. He also runs Fruit Pie Music Agency, whose artist roster includes The Bootleg Beatles, The Beekeepers, Gorilla, Goldblade and My Life Story.
Clare Lawrence -
Whilst attending the Overview Programme, Clare was doing work experience for Ginger Productions (Chris Evan's Production Company). After the programme Clare spent 6 months gaining work experience in various record labels. The knowledge she gained has lead to a position as marketing / promotions assistant at Mute Records whose artist roster includes Depeche Mode and Erasure.
Wayne Parker -
Wayne was working as a sales assistant at Our Price when he decided to sit the Music Industry Overview Programme. Wayne phoned the Global Office regularly to check for jobs. After being persistant for almost a year and with Global's help, Wayne landed a job with Strickland Fairhurst, an Artist Management Company and then moved onto become the Marketing Manager at Cooking Vinyl Records.
